Schoolchildren of Sacred Heart Primary School in Girvan received a festive surprise today, with a Stagecoach West Scotland bus dropping off dozens of advent calendars for the kids during the morning rush hour.
The advent calendar drop-off follows Stagecoach West Scotland’s support for the school’s Breakfast Club, launched last summer in partnership with the Greggs Foundation. Over the last two years, the Breakfast Club has provided 80 pupils at the school with a free breakfast of fresh bread, fruits, and cereals, helping to ensure a nutritious start to the day.
Fiona Doherty, Managing Director at Stagecoach West Scotland, said:
“This has been such a challenging year for so many families, we wanted to do something to spread a little extra joy for the schoolkids. It was a pleasure for the Stagecoach West team to add this special stop to this morning’s bus route. The breakfast club is so important to the children, providing a wholesome meal and helping improve their overall health and wellbeing. We’ve been proud to support the club over the last two years and have some fun Christmas fundraising activities lined up over the next few weeks to support the programme into 2021.”
Mark Ingram, Head Teacher at Sacred Heart Primary, said:
“Firstly, I cannot thank Stagecoach and Greggs enough on behalf of all the children and parents within the local area. The financial support has been incredible to allow us to put on a breakfast club within the school. Given the level of deprivation so many of our children live in, I couldn’t justify a financial burden on parents. But that’s not to say they don’t have a buy in, their time. Parents and children alike have benefited from the breakfast club with so many positive examples to share. From increase in attendance, reduction in lateness and parental engagement at our sporty mornings, things have been going great.”
