Caledonia Housing Association (CHA) has named a new Perth development after the son of the previous landowner.

The Crieff Road development of high-quality affordable homes will be known as Steven’s Place in memory of the son of Carol and David (Dave) Scott, a former councillor for Perth and Kinross and Depute Provost for the city. Steven died in 2003 following a battle with cancer and Dave passed away in 2013.

The site at Steven’s Place was previously owned by Dave Scott and was where he brought up his family. It was always his desire that if the ground was ever developed for housing, the development would be named after his son, Steven, who tragically died of cancer at the age of 35.

Marking the announcement at McDiarmid Park in Perth, CHA staff welcomed members of Dave and Steven’s family to a ribbon cutting ceremony and presented them with a model of the street sign. Representatives from Perth & Kinross Council and The Webster Group, as the contractors of the development, also attended the ceremony.

Speaking on behalf of the Scott family, Adele MacDonald, Steven’s sister, said: “The family were all aware of my dad’s wishes for the land behind the old family home and we are delighted that Caledonia Housing Association, in partnership with Perth & Kinross Council, has brought his wish to fruition with the development of affordable housing in Steven’s Place.”

Alan Nairn, Chair of Caledonia Housing Association, said: “Today was a significant and fitting tribute to a well-respected local family in Perth. Steven’s Place is a small but significant development in which we have created much needed affordable homes for social rent. We’re proud to be able to celebrate this development with the Scott family as it fulfils Dave’s wish for his house and land to be used to build affordable housing for the city.”

Perth & Kinross Council’s Housing and Social Wellbeing Convener, Councillor Tom McEwan, added: “Councillor Dave Scott was a great servant to the people of Perth and Kinross, and it is typical of the man that he wanted this site to be used for affordable social housing to help other people. It is very fitting that the new development will be named after his late son Steven. This housing will be a great legacy for both Steven and Dave Scott.”
