A new, innovative approach to supported living for independent older people will be showcased at an open day in Aberdeen this week (Wednesday, 10th May). In what is believed to be a first of its kind for Scotland, Crandeen, part of Abbeyfield Scotland, the charity which provides independent living support for older people, is making available for rental five high quality, two-bedroom bungalows at Dandara’s award-winning Hazelwood development in Aberdeen’s West End, along with a flexible choice of personal services.
People will have the chance to look around these brand new bungalows for the first time at the open day. The contemporary bungalows have been designed to offer residents easy access, space and flexibility and will be available for occupation from June of this year (2017).
In addition to the bungalows, Crandeen will be offering a wider home support package ranging from “light touch” assistance with such tasks as gardening and shopping through to companionship and the provision of personal care. The services are being developed in consultation with future customers and will be available later in 2017.
Karen Barr, Director of Crandeen said: “We know from our research that older people much prefer living in their own home, but with the option of having access to support and companionship if they need it, or indeed if they simply want that extra help, whether that’s with doing the garden or, in time, with their personal care. That’s what we’re offering at Hazelwood, where residents can move in on a rental basis, safe in the knowledge that if their support needs change over time, support is there for them.
People will be able to dip in to our varied basket of services as they choose and we plan to make these services available more widely across the Aberdeen area later this year. We are keen to get feedback from people attending the open day this week about the proposed services and support and we look forward to showing people the fabulous bungalows too.
