Investors from across Europe will come to Edinburgh this week to attend a gathering of European business angel leaders.
Members of the Business Angel Europe Club have been invited to Scotland to hear from LINC Scotland – the national network for business angels in Scotland – and some of its members, about how what has become known as “the Scottish model” operates.
Business angel investing has been particularly successful in Scotland where it operates as a private / public partnership, with private angel investing groups leading on investments, often being matched by public sector funding through the Scottish Investment Bank.
Around 30 delegates will attend the two-day event at Edinburgh’s Glasshouse Hotel, which is being co-hosted by LINC Scotland and Archangels. Attendees will be travelling from Germany, France, Italy, Belgium and elsewhere in Europe and the UK.
On Monday (6th June) David Ovens, Niki McKenzie and Sarah Hardy from Archangels, Scotland’s largest angel investment syndicate, will outline Archangels’ approach to investing in young Scottish tech and life sciences companies with defensible IP. They will tell delegates of the importance of the close working relationship with the Scottish Investment Bank and how Archangels has built its success on the “four pillars” of: giving something back; supporting young Scottish businesses; making attractive investment returns; and having fun.
Other sessions over the two days of the event will include an examination of the lifecycle of an investment and a look at Scotland’s flourishing tech sector.
